Sigurjon has had many motives to his paintings through the years. Today he mostly paints in a social romantic style about the burdens and joys in people’s everyday lives. The motives are the countryside and picnics on one hand and then the seaside and the herring on the other hand.
Sigurjón has painted many pictures from the herring era in Siglufjörður, the former herring capital in the North Atlantic. It was an era that is known for its activity, hard work and prosperity. A time that is gone but will forever live with the nation, and through Sigurjóns paintings.
